    Don Budinger is Chairman and founding Director of the Rodel Foundations, Chairman and founding Director of Science Foundation Arizona, founding Chairman of College Success Arizona, a founding board member of Tucson Values Teachers, Emeritus Board Member of Stand for Children and currently serves on the board of Greater Phoenix Leadership, and Basis Charter Schools. He serves as a member of the Southern Arizona Leadership Council, the O’Connor House Advisory Group and ASU President’s Club Trustees. Prior to founding Rodel Foundations, Don Budinger was one of the founders of Rodel, Inc. – a garage start-up that grew to become the world’s largest manufacturer of the surface finishing chemicals used to make computer chips, rigid memory disks and specialty optics.

    President Cheng has set a bold vision of excellence for Northern Arizona University through student-centered teaching, a robust research environment, an extensive global engagement program, and inclusive support services focused on student success and graduation. She also is guiding an expansion of community partnerships focused on strengthening economic and cultural vitality in the region.  President Cheng’s vision and direction has resulted in a 60 percent increase of NAU’s education abroad program, increases in the enrollment of international students, and is moving NAU closer to becoming the leading university serving Native Americans.

    Prior to forming The Maguire Company, Mr. Maguire was a senior investment banker with a regional securities firm.  During his tenure, he was the leading financial advisor in the state of Arizona.  In the 1980s, Mr. Maguire was the Chief Deputy in the Office of the State Treasurer.  And prior to that he served as the Economic Advisor to the Arizona State Senate, where he was involved in all legislation with either a direct or indirect impact on the municipal fiscal structure of state and local government in Arizona.  Mr. Maguire was directly involved in helping to create: the 1980 Property Tax and School Finance reforms; the 1981 Highway User Revenue Fund revisions; the recodification of the Arizona Income Tax code; the State Constitutional Expenditure Limit and numerous other legislative reforms. Mr. Maguire has served as an advisor to several Arizona Governors, Arizona Senate Presidents, and Arizona House Speakers.  In addition, he has served on numerous special legislative study committees and provides frequent expert testimony to legislative policy committees.

    Ruth Owens-West’s areas of expertise include school and district improvement, high school redesign, multicultural education, organizational development, parent and community engagement in education, and program evaluation.  Throughout her professional career, Owens-West has worked with various federal education programs, including Title I, Neglected and Delinquent, Indian Education, Smaller Learning Communities, and the Comprehensive School Reform Demonstration programs. Owens-West helps districts to correct disproportionality in special education, address equity issues to close achievement gaps, and develop and follow effective implementation plans.   She also works with state departments of education to develop policies and programs to address issues such as chronic absenteeism and improving outcomes for underserved and under-represented students.

    Cancellation Policy
    Any registrant unable to attend should contact the ABEC offices (Karen by email Karen@azbec.org or by phone 602-264-8396) as soon as possible.  If the cancelation of a paid registration occurs before October 13, the registration fee minus the processing fee of $10 will be refunded within five (5) business days.  If the cancelation of a paid registration occurs after October 12, the registration fee minus a $35.00 cancelation fee will be refunded within ten (10) business days. Registrations not canceled per these guidelines must be paid in full even if the registrant does not attend the conferenceConference materials, meals and breaks preparations are based on the number of registrants.
