SUMMARY:OLD ABEC 2013 Annual Legislative Connection
DESCRIPTION:An ABEC members-only event.\n\n\n\nThe ABEC Legislative Connection has become THE place to be during the first week of the legislative session\, and this year we have a very special guest: \n\n\n\nKati Haycock\, president and founder of The Education Trust\, a national organization dedicated to the high academic achievement of all students at all levels pre-kindergarten through college. Ed Trust's commitment to closing the gaps in opportunity and achievement for low-income students and students of color provides a voice for those often ignored. "There are lots of groups that advocate for the adults working in our school systems\," she says. "We\, on the other hand\, are tirelessly focused on what's best for the kids." \n\n\n\nMs. Haycock spoke at the ABEC 2012 Conference to rave reviews. Known as a truth teller and trailblazer in the education reform community\, her visit is being sponsored by Greater Phoenix Leadership and Valley of the Sun United Way. \n\n\n\nMs. Haycock will present Arizona-specific data and insights on successful schools. "For generations\, we've told ourselves that by working hard and playing by the rules\, each generation of Americans will be more successful than their parents. It's a powerful and persuasive narrative that is no longer true\, but it doesn't have to be that way." Ms. Haycock's remarks will include highlights on states of similar demographics and schools that are doing the work of assuring that all students perform. \n\n\n\nAlso invited to say a few remarks are the leadership of the Legislative Education Committees: Rep. Eric Meyer\, Rep. Doris Goodale\, Sen. Leah Landrum Taylor\, and Sen. Kimberly Yee.\n\n\n\nJoin ABEC member organizations' school district superintendents\, senior administrators and school board members\, business and civic leaders\, legislators as well as other elected officials\, for a networking lunch.
