"We shared challenges not only with the state budgeting process and education, but also as working mothers."

"He got to see what I look for when visiting a school as part of the administrator's evaluation cycle."

"We have a critical role in educating legislators so they can make informed decisions."

"The conversations were much more meaningful when there were students right in front of us."

"I was really happy to have the chance to talk with students!"

What is it?

Each fall, Arizona Business and Education Coalition (ABEC) sponsors an opportunity for Legislators to shadow a school district superintendent.
Shadow the Superintendent is an opportunity:
  • For legislators to spend time with a school superintendent, in their legislative district or elsewhere. This project gives the legislator a chance to hear and see first-hand the issues from the practitioner - the superintendent.
  • For superintendents to share how the issues play out in their districts.

Time Commitment

ABEC requests that the legislator spend a minimum of 4 hours (half a day) in the school district. The superintendent is asked to keep his or her day as normal as possible while the legislator is there - but we also encourage time to be spent discussing some of the current issues.

To accommodate busy schedules, the day and time are up to you. It can be anytime in October or November, morning, afternoon or mid-day.

ABEC will assist in the scheduling process.
